Madrid is a city which offers all the needs any international congress may require:
A hotel offer of 80.000 bed places, one of Europe’s biggest airports, a modern and model communication network, two Conference Centres, four Auditoriums devoted to music, as well as an Opera theatre. It also has four professional symphonic orchestras, six professional music bands and countless theatres and museums with an endless cultural and leisure offer.
Once we had the support of all these government institutions and with the National Music Auditorium as host for the congress, with four halls having a capacity of 2,360, 700, 220 and 200 people respectively, we thought about solving the problem of distances and trips in a city of more than 5,000,000 inhabitants. The Hotel Auditorium of Madrid is the solution: a 4-star hotel, opposite the airport, with 869 rooms, an auditorium with a capacity for 2,400 people, 60 meeting rooms of which 31 are suitable for group rehearsals, master classes, etc. There will even be a reception desk exclusively devoted to congress participants. This wonderful hotel also endorses our candidacy. Besides, the transfer from the hotel to the Auditorium takes only 15 minutes, as they are in the same area of the city.

The Spanish Saxophonists Association and the Sax-Ensemble Foundation propose the city of Madrid to host for the next World Saxophone Congress in the year 2012. This candidacy counts on the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Regional Government of Madrid and the City Council of Madrid. The organisation proposes as host for the congress the National Music Auditorium, with halls having a capacity of 2,300, 700, 200 and 200 people respectively. This auditorium is the most important and the one with greater activity in the whole of Spain.
Accommodation is arranged at the Hotel Auditorium of Madrid: a 4-star hotel, opposite de airport, with 869 rooms, an auditorium with a capacity of 2,400 people, 60 meeting rooms of which 31 are suitable for group rehearsals, master classes, etc. This allows us to carry out master classes and performances, if necessary, in the same hotel and makes rehearsals and meetings greatly easier.
We count, at this moment, on the participation acceptance and the support for our candidacy of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Spanish Radio and Television, the Madrid Symphonic Orchestra, the Ciudad Real Symphonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Municipal Band of Madrid, the Municipal Band of Villafranca de los Caballeros and the Sax-Ensemble Group.
With the said support contracted at the time of offering this candidacy, the advantages we can offer are:
Travelling savings in international flights and transfer to the hotel.
Stay of all participants in the same hotel, thus making communication, rehearsals, master classes and meetings easier without trips. Morning performances of the Congress in the Hotel itself.
In the afternoon, from 4 pm, sessions in four simultaneous rooms at the National Music Auditorium, which also has 20 rehearsal rooms, two cafeterias and very wide lobbies allowing the exhibition of instruments and accessories.
A daily symphonic session, a daily music band session and several daily sessions with chamber groups and orchestras. This will allow more than fifty saxophone soloists to be accompanied by symphonic orchestras, music bands or chamber orchestras.
We also want to develop and support research on the saxophone.

We count on your vote for the 16th World Saxophone Congress in Madrid.
